(Spencer)-- An early morning fire (Fri.) has claimed the life of a Spencer man.
Firefighters were called to an apartment at 513 West Fifth Street in Spencer shortly after midnight. Upon entering the residence firefighters encountered intense heat.
They found the body of 59-year-old Wayne Weier, Senior of Spencer in the kitchen.
Fire Chief Doug Duncan says it appears the fire was the result of an electric space heater that ignited a couch in the living room.
Damage was estimated at 25-thousand dollars with severe smoke and heat damage throughout.
